Plant rhizomes 4-6 inches deep in rich, moist soil with good drainage. Partial to full sun. Space 3-4 feet apart as plants grow large. Best planted at start of monsoon (June-July). Requires humidity.
Keep soil consistently moist but well-drained. High humidity preferred. Feed with high-potassium fertilizer monthly during growing season. Protect from cold — minimum temperature 15°C. Divide annually.
