Curcuma (Curcuma alismatifolia) also known as Siam Tulip or Patumma, produces stunning cone-shaped flower spikes in pink, purple, and white from lush tropical foliage. This Thai native thrives magnificently in Indian monsoon conditions.
- Exotic cone-shaped flower spikes — like tropical tulips
- Blooms in monsoon season — loves Indian summer heat
- Lush, large tropical leaves provide year-round interest
- Thrives in pots and garden beds — very versatile
- Perennial rhizome — returns reliably every monsoon season
Plant rhizomes 3-4 inches deep in rich, well-draining soil with high organic content. Partial sun to partial shade. Space 12 inches apart. Best planted April-May before monsoon. Requires warm temperatures (above 20°C).
Water generously during monsoon growing season. Reduce dramatically when foliage dies back (winter dormancy). Feed monthly with balanced fertilizer during growing season. Lift rhizomes in cold winters.
Spectacular summer-monsoon blooms (June-September). Pink, purple or white cone-shaped flower spikes above lush foliage. Plants go dormant in winter and re-emerge vigorously each summer. A true Indian garden treasure.
